Let the place guide you

At Diyabubula, time unfolds like water—fluid, quiet, and soulful. Whether you are seeking solitude or inspiration, each moment here invites presence.

Our experiences are not scheduled—they arise from your own rhythm, in dialogue with the land, the art, and your inner stillness.
Whether you come as an artist seeking inspiration, a spiritual traveler in search of stillness, or a gourmand hungry for new flavors, this is a space where the essential is restored. We do not offer programs. No instructors, no rituals. Only the space, the time, and the quiet to return—to yourself, your breath, your way of being.

Sketch, paint, or write beside the spring

Let your creativity flow with the waters and the rhythm of nature.

Nestled under ancient trees or seated on a veranda, you are free to draw, paint, or write with no expectations.
This is not necessarily about producing art—it is about entering a state of stillness surrounded by light, shadow, birdsongs, and the constant whisper of the spring.
Sketch by the water, write under the banyan, or sculpt in the forest clearing. The landscape offers endless prompts: a shifting shadow, the rhythm of a bird’s call, a glint of gold on a dragonfly’s wing.
We provide basic materials on request, or you may bring your own. There is no audience here—only presence, and the profound quiet of being witnessed by trees.

Explore forest trails alive with birds and butterflies

The forest surrounding Diyabubula is a living cathedral.

At dawn or dusk, walk barefoot slowly along the shaded trails, hear the birds, the rustling leaves and the occasional flash of a butterfly’s wing.
With over 50 species of birds recorded in the area, including the endemic Sri Lankan junglefowl and paradise flycatchers, this is a haven for bird lovers.
No two walks are ever the same. The forest reveals itself differently each day.

Meditate in the open pavilion beside the pond

Stillness is one of Diyabubula’s great teachers.

Our meditation pavilion, open to the elements and shaded by trees, offers a sacred space to simply sit and listen to our breath, your heartbeat, and the water. You may sit by the bubbling water, walk slowly among the trees, or simply breathe while watching dragonflies skim the pond. Whether you are an experienced meditator or a curious beginner, the natural stillness here supports the return to yourself. No schedule. No ritual. No teacher. Just silence, and the pulse of nature.

We can offer simple guidance in breath meditation, walking meditation, or silent sitting for those who seek structure. But most come here to listen—to the stillness between thoughts and the soft murmur of the natural world.
Spiritual seekers often say the forest holds them in invisible arms here.

Yoga at your own pace

Beneath a canopy of leaves, the open-air pavilion invites you to move at your own pace and follow your own practice.

The space is humble, shaded, and alive. No mirrors. No pressure. Just you, the mat, and a world quietly turning.

Read from our library of rare and beautiful books

In the main lodge, a curated library reflects the eclectic, curious mind of Laki Senanayake.

From Eastern philosophy to tropical flora, from architectural drawings to Sri Lankan poetry—these books are part of the retreat, they find you when you need them.
Curl into a chair by the window, or read in the garden hammock, letting each page carry you into deeper reflection.

Create a conversation with nature

Painters, writers, sculptors, and seekers come here to engage deeply with nature through their own practice.

Diyabubula is a place where solitude and silence are honored. You may go days with little more than the rustle of the trees and your own thoughts as company. Guests are encouraged to respect one another’s wishes for limited interaction.
Our team is trained in causing minimal disruption to this sacred time with yourself.
